Modular Kitchen Planning Guide for Guntur and Vijayawada Homes

A modular kitchen is built from factory-made cabinets that are fitted on site, so the quality you get depends on three things: the layout, the materials and the hardware. Here is how to think about each before you ask for quotes.

Pick the layout that fits your room

  • Straight (I-shaped): everything on one wall. Works for narrow kitchens and small flats.
  • L-shaped: two adjoining walls. The most common choice because it makes good use of a corner.
  • Parallel (galley): two facing runs with a walkway between. Efficient when the room is long and narrow.
  • U-shaped: three walls, the most storage and counter space. Needs a larger room so it does not feel closed in.
  • Island or peninsula: only when there is enough clear floor space around it to move comfortably.

Whatever the shape, keep the sink, hob and refrigerator within easy reach of each other, and leave counter space on both sides of the hob.

Materials that suit a humid coastal climate

  • Carcass (the cabinet boxes): moisture-resistant plywood, usually sold as BWR (boiling water resistant) or BWP (boiling water proof), stands up to humidity and leaks better than MDF or particle board near the sink.
  • Shutters: laminate is the most economical, acrylic and PU finishes look glossier and cost more, membrane foil suits curved profiles. Ask to see a sample, not a catalogue photo.
  • Countertop: granite is hard-wearing and widely used; quartz and compact surfaces cost more and resist stains well.
  • Backsplash: tiles or a glass panel that wipes clean. Keep it easy to maintain around the hob.

Hardware matters more than most people expect

Hinges, drawer channels and baskets are the parts you touch every day. Ask which brand and type are included (soft-close hinges, full-extension channels), and whether the quote lists them item by item. A low price that quietly uses basic fittings tends to show up as sagging doors within a couple of years.

What drives the price

  • The area of the cabinets (priced per square foot of front face or per running foot, so check which one your quote uses).
  • The grade of plywood and shutter finish.
  • The hardware brand and the number of accessories (pull-out baskets, corner units, tall units).
  • Countertop, chimney, hob and sink, if they are part of the same quote.
  • Civil, electrical and plumbing changes needed before the cabinets go in.

Checklist before you sign

  • A site visit and exact measurements, not an estimate from a floor plan alone.
  • A written quote that separates materials, hardware and installation.
  • A design drawing you have approved before production starts.
  • A written delivery and installation timeline.
  • What the warranty covers, and who you call if a door or drawer needs adjustment.

We build modular kitchens in Guntur and Vijayawada and share a written quote after a site visit. Starting prices are listed on the modular kitchen page, and the final price is confirmed in writing before work begins.
